The Wedding Feast of the Lamb

By Brittenne Boykin

Overview
Scripture Lesson Text: Revelation 19:5-10

In this week’s set of passages, John takes us to the throne room of heaven, a scene of epic proportions! The Lamb has triumphed and the kingdoms of darkness have fallen. In verses 5-8, a voice cries out of the throne calling the servants of God and all that fear Him to praise Him. The voice of a great multitude, as the voice of many waters, and loud thundering is heard. They offer up the praise of hallelujah and proclaim the Lord God Omnipotent reigns.

The voice proclaims that God is due honor because the marriage of the Lamb has come and His wife has made herself ready, arrayed in white linen which is the righteousness of the saints. John concludes in verses 9-10 with the charge he was given to write, blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper. When he fell at his feet, the voice that came from the throne admonished John that he was the fellow servant and God alone was worthy of worship.

Related Scriptures:

Psalm 97:1-12
The Psalms proclaim that the Lord reigns, and it contrasts God’s righteousness with the consequences of embracing or rejecting them. It takes us to the throne and reminds us that it is founded on justice and God’s righteousness. The psalmist calls for the very Earth to rejoice in God’s dominion and righteous rule. It challenges all who love God to hate evil. It reassures us that He delivers us from the hand of the wicked, and the righteous can rejoice in the Lord and give thanks to His name.

Matthew 22:1-14
In the set of scriptures from the book of Matthew, Jesus tells his audience a parable or an earthly story to relate a spiritual truth. He likens God’s kingdom to a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to call in all his invited guests. The king had prepared everything, a feast for his guest and yet no one took him up on his offer.

Most were too busy and some even went as far as to beat them and kill the servants who delivered the invitation. The king extended the invitation to anyone who would accept and what a feast it was, seeing that every seat filled not one chair empty! The king came in to look and when he saw a man who wasn’t properly dressed, he reprimanded the man and had the man sent away never to return. Many were invited but few made it.

Practical Point:
As people who have been brought into the closest relationship with the Lord, we should rejoice without ceasing.

We must remember even in the challenging seasons that we have the most precious gift of all, a personal relationship with God. It is our relationship with God and His word in our heart that gives us the comfort and confidence to rejoice without ceasing in all things and always.
