There are some battles that cannot be won through volume, pride, intimidation, or human strength.
In Jude verses 8–10, we are confronted with a sobering picture of spiritual warfare that challenges much of what modern culture celebrates. Even Michael the archangel, while contending with the devil, “durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.”
That phrase matters.
“The Lord rebuke you.”
It is a reminder that spiritual authority is not rooted in arrogance. True spiritual warfare is not about performing power. It is about remaining submitted to God while standing firmly in His authority.
Too often, people attempt to fight spiritual battles with fleshly weapons:
anger,
ego,
public shaming,
control,
manipulation,
or constant contention.
But the kingdom of God operates differently.
This is a different kind of fight.
The believer must learn the difference between confidence and carnality. Jude reveals that there are spiritual realities that should produce humility within us, not recklessness. Even Michael understood boundaries, order, and dependence upon the authority of God.
The battle belonged to the Lord.
That truth is deeply important in a culture that often rewards aggression and celebrates self exaltation. Spiritual maturity is not proven by how loud we become in battle. It is revealed by how surrendered we remain to God while in it.
The enemy would love for believers to become consumed with fighting people while neglecting prayer, discernment, holiness, mercy, and obedience. But spiritual warfare is not primarily about attacking people. Scripture reminds us that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood.”
There are battles where God is calling us to stop striving in the flesh and return to spiritual posture:
prayer,
wisdom,
humility,
discernment,
fasting,
forgiveness,
faithfulness,
and trust in God’s power.
“The Lord rebuke you” is not weakness.
It is dependence.
It is restraint.
It is confidence in divine authority rather than human performance.
As Pastor Hillman continued the Spiritual Warfare series at Shekinah Christian Fellowship, the message challenged believers to reconsider how we fight and who we trust while fighting.
Some battles are not won because we outshout the enemy.
Some battles are won because we remain under the authority of God.
